Squirrel Lake Resorts
1907 - 1970
Squirrel Lake featured plenty of resorts once the railroad expansion and road improvements opened the Northwoods to tourists from the turn of the century on. Tales of fabulous fishing, beautiful forests, mild summer weather and bstunning fall colors brought people north in droves from across the nation. Presidents, movie stars, gangsters and the family next door discovered the lure of the lake and the convenience of resorts. Family owned, most offered cabins for rent by the week, and some provided dining plans for hot meals and a Sunday supper. Rental included use of a rowboat and dock use, and families usually had a small beach area for water play. At the bottom of this page are postcards and ads for a few of the many resorts on Squirrel Lake as they passed through various owners and incarnations.
